LatinX Pop Now invites a critical examination of consumerism in America through the perspectives of seven influential Latin American artists. This exhibition delves into the complex interplay of cultural identity, consumer habits, and societal impact within the vibrant context of Miami. By interrogating what we consume—news, fashion, arepas, alcohol, chocolate, or coffee—the featured artworks challenge us to reflect on the forces shaping contemporary life.
Edo's celebrated work underscores the cultural and communal importance of the arepa, while Edel Rodriguez's iconic illustrations dissect the relentless flow of media and information. Venezuelan sculptor Polito's pieces explore the materiality and symbolic weight of everyday objects. Daniela Sanchez Vegas offers an expressive and somewhat ingenuous homage to Andy Warhol, questioning the commodification of fashion.
r10's interpretation of a to-go food box serves as a metaphor for transient consumer culture, whereas Oscar Villalobos brings a stark, critical perspective on alcohol consumption in Latin America. These artists construct a multifaceted narrative that resonates with Miami's diverse and dynamic Latinx population.
Join us at Mundo Arte Gallery to explore these thought-provoking artworks and engage in conversations about the cultural and societal impact of consumerism.
