Bairo Martínez holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts with a specialty in painting and a doctorate from the Complutense University of Madrid. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.

Martínez considers himself a multifaceted and experimental artist, unbound by convention. He utilizes a wide range of resources to formalize his work, which can take the form of sculptural objects, installations, photography, painting, video, and other necessary mediums. His approach is marked by a high degree of experimentation and innovation with materials, allowing him to continuously seek new conceptual and material inputs.

Martínez has received numerous recognitions throughout his career. He was invited to the V Bienal de Arte Latinoamericano del Bronx, NY in 2016. In 2003, he was selected by Colombia for the III Bienal Internacional de Arte Gráfico in the digital proposal category at the Galería Estatal de Bellas Artes de Novosibirsk, Moscow, Russia. He was also chosen by the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation in 2000 to participate in the AL.E/ Interuniversity Cooperation Program and served as a professor at the University of Barcelona in 2001. His accolades include the Portafolio AGPA – Artes Gráficas Panamericanas – Smurfit Cartón de Colombia award in 1998, along with an Honorable Mention at the IX Salón Nacional de Artistas, Universidad de Antioquia, Museo Universitario, and Cámara de Comercio de Medellín. Additionally, he was recognized in the Nuevos Nombres, Imagen Regional II at Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango, Banco de la República in 1997.
